After all formalities of receiving admission, the only stop between you and Canada are various post admission requisites.

Guaranteed Investment Certificate(GIC)

Now that your admission to the desired college/university is secured, you need a GIC which is mandatory as per Canadian guidelines for an International Student.

A GIC is nothing but a financial backing for your initial stay in Canada up to 1 year wherein you need to add a total of CA$ 10,000 + CA$ 200(fees) as an investment amount.

Upon your arrival in Canada, a total of CA$ 2000 will be credited to your Canadian bank account, and from the outstanding CA$ 8000, CA$ 667 + the liable interest will be wired to you on monthly basis.

Education Loan

To ease your stay in Canada, the Canadian government has made mandatory laws under which an optimal arrangement of finances is a must.

Once you have gone through the GIC monetary requirements which is CA$ 10,200 you can now decide whether to avail of an education loan to satisfy the fund requirement or to go for individual funds which can be transferred into your GIC directly.

Canadian Student Permit

After all formality of receiving the admission, the crucial stop between you and Canada is a Canadian Student Permit with validity for the whole course and an additional 90 days, which is a requisite for entering as an international student in Canada.

The general processing time for Canadian Student Permit in India is of 30-60 days which is equivalent to 1-2 months. Whereas, the time for biometrics or the permit application to pass through the Visa Application Centre(VAC) and the formal officials of the Canadian Study Permit is not included. Therefore, the deadline for you plays a major role in this case as many times the deadline for students in India varies from the rest of the world.

Once you are well aware of the deadline, start preparing your documents which will be inclusive of;

  • Two photographs
  • Passport
  • Offer letter
  • Education loan proof/bank statement of last 4 months
  • GIC and Canadian bank account proof
  • Letter of Explanation
  • Certificat D’Acceptation DU QUEBEC(if applicable)
  • Other documents(as per profile requirements)

Note:

  • Your photographs must be recent.
  • Letter of Explanation is a letter stating your purpose of studying in Canada, your future aims and objectives or goals, and your liability as an international student in Canada.
  • Certificat d’acceptation DU QUEBEC is required if you wish to study in the city of Quebec. In such cases, your college/university will direct you to apply for the same.

The whole process of availing of your Canadian Student Permit is majorly done online on the official website of www.canada.ca.

Offline:

In case, you wish to go for an offline application, you can submit your documents in VFS Centres across India to start the process.

Selecting a date to travel depends on you but it would be best to get yourself a flight on weekdays as compared to weekends because that just might save your extra expenses.
