German grading practice:
“Modified Bavarian formula” is generally used to convert grades from across the world to German grades. This can be mathematically written as;
x=Nmax-Nd Nmax-Nmin 3+1
Here; = German grade
Nmax= Maximum possible grade in your home country
Nmin= Minimum possible grade in your home country
Nd= acquired german grade.

Indian grading practice
Colleges in India generally use CGPA (Cumulative GPA) on a 10-point scale or percentages (up to 100%) to grade and evaluate students. You may often need to convert CGPA to percentage before applying abroad. However, the German grading system is quite different, and it’s crucial to convert your GPA accurately to ensure you meet the admission criteria of your dream university.
Most German universities warmly accept applicants whose GPA, when converted to the German grade scale, is below 2.50. On the other hand, a GPA above 2.50 on the German scale could lead to rejection. So, double-check that your academic profile aligns before submitting your application!
Instructions:
- Apply with your bachelor’s grade(used by your home country university) to German universities unless specifically asked by a German grade application by the university. Therefore, do not convert
your grade as and when required. - Mention grades/percentile/ranks obtained by you in school/college in your LOM as many universities consider it.
